A recent accident occurred in Delhi’s Civil Lines area where a Delhi University student and her two other friend seriously injured after their car struck a divider and caught fire. The rash occurred near the Sushruta Trauma Centre where the vehicle lost control, colliding with the barrier before igniting. Bystanders quickly intervened, rescuing the passengers and alerting emergency responders.
As per the police, a Police Control Room (PCR) call was received at 7:38 a.m. to them in which the call informed the police about a burning Kia Carens car in Civil Lines.
The owner and the driver of the car allegedly fled the scene, the police is now investigating the whole incident by reviewing the CCTV footage and by taking the help of eyewitnesses to help locate the driver.
DCP Raja Banthia mentioned that a 22-year-old student and her friends; two women and a man were coming in the car towards Civil Lines. The owner of the car, also aged 22, was driving and hit the divider near the Trauma Centre. He fled the scene while the three women were still inside the car. They were taken to Sushruta Trauma Centre. The car caught fire after the women were taken out.
The two out of three women are already been discharged from the hospital while one is still admitted, but is out of danger.
A case has been registered under sections 281 for rash driving and 125 (a) for endangering life of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the man at Civil Lines police station, police said.
The Police authority is assessing that whether only reckless driving or other factors are also contributing to the accident.
This incident raised the concerns about road safety, especially involving young drivers. Local officials, are expected to tighten safety protocols and may consider additional traffic monitoring to prevent similar incidents.
