The academic council meeting was held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in which various topics were discussed up on. One such discussion was done on the way DU is planning to bring cost effective sustainability measure.
The University of Delhi is preparing to bring out various exciting initiatives such as launching its own satellite, free electric vehicles on college campuses, free lunch scheme to DU students etc. All these initiatives are the part of DU’s Institutional Development Plan 2024.
Delhi University’s allowance to free electric vehicles on the campuses by students, starting with areas like Chhatra Marg, it projects that DU targets to create a more clean and green surrounding for its staff and students. The university is trying to bring environmental sustainability by restricting vehicles that runs with the help of fossil fuels.
Other Delhi University initiatives like providing lunch to the underprivileged students, offering free meal in the afternoon to the university’s students but the meal would be provided in the exchange for work in the cafeteria of University. According to the IDP, food safety measures would be taken care of before food procurement, help of self-help groups could be taken for the same.
Delhi University’s initiative of satellite system highlights its commitment to innovation as it will focus on advancing scientific research. The university aims to collaborate with ISRO so that will the help of ISRO, the satellite initiative could bring to life.
Other than that, DU is also planning to create “University Heart” which will act as a commercial shopping center for university’s students. In the University Heart, the products created by Delhi University students could be put for exhibition and sale. It would be a great platform for students who will start their individual businesses as University Heart would presents a unique market opportunity to them.
As well as University Heart, DU will also focus on the development of the ‘University Alumni Angel Network’ where prominent and known alumni of Delhi University could provide mentorship to the university’s students. And alumni could also grant financial aid to the start ups led by students.
All these initiatives shows Delhi University’s dedication to the holistic development as University will not only focus on providing teaching to its students but also inculcate academic excellence with environmental consciousness and social responsibility. Such initiatives reflects university’s forward thinking approach.
Although these initiatives are a part of long term goals, but Delhi University will try to achieve them as soon as possible.
